The Deloitte & Touche Foundation has received a $1 million donation from former Foundation CEO and former Deloitte & Touche LLP chairman and CEO J. Michael Cook. The money will be used to endow a doctoral consortium for the American Accounting Association (AAA) whereby advanced doctoral candidates will be able to meet and exchange ideas with college faculty.
"I have always been very proud of the firm's support of education," said Mike Cook. "I am delighted to have this opportunity, through the Deloitte & Touche Foundation, to give something back to the profession and the academic community, which have meant so much to me."
The consortium is an annual event organized by AAA. College faculty members are invited to attend and meet with advanced students from approximately 90 colleges and universities. The students and faculty share perspectives from various areas of research and advanced studies.
"These doctoral candidates are the professionals we will rely on in the future to educate students and ensure continuation and innovation in the accounting profession," said Douglas McCracken, chairman of Deloitte & Touche and the Deloitte & Touche Foundation. "That is why it is important to provide them with the opportunity to discuss state-of-the-art research and teaching with leading academics."
