Not even George Lucas could put together a story as unbelievable as Lindsay Lohan's real life. The drama, the self-destructive antics, and the financial devastation go on and on and on with no end in sight. The latest events include a luxury gift tax bill from the Bravo network and a narrow escape from jail . . . very narrow.
Take a look at the last few months leading up to the latest.
At the end of 2012, with the help of friend Charlie Sheen, she paid off one of the tax liens against her (for about $100,000). That left her with another remaining federal lien for $133,000 and a ticked-off friend. Charlie Sheen told the media that Lohan didn't even acknowledge the gift, let alone thank him. After he ratted her out publicly, she did send flowers and a handwritten note.
Maybe becoming a star too young in life left Lohan with an entitlement mentality, because now . . . she's at it again.
Not long ago, the Bravo network reality TV show Million Dollar Decorators did a makeover on her rental home, giving her furnishings worth $250,000. The producers also planned to pay the luxury gift tax for her, which could be $25,000 to $50,000. Then, she blew it. Lohan was present for the filming of the initial episode, but when it was time to finish the job by shooting the reveal episode, she was a no-show.
An unspecified source told tabloid reporters, "Bravo attempted to get the furniture back, but Lindsay was one step ahead of them and had everything from the house sent to an unknown storage location. Lindsay was quite pleased with herself and bragged to friends that she can get whatever she wants because she is a celebrity." The reliability of that source is unknown, but looking at the big picture, it doesn't sound far-fetched.
Lohan did tell Bravo that she couldn't fulfill her obligation to be at the shoot because she was in the hospital, following a car accident.
New Year, New Calamity, Same Old Story
She ends the first month of 2013 with another attempted no-show, another excuse, and a narrow escape. She was ordered to appear at a mandatory court hearing in Southern California on a probation violation charge (the probation relates to charges of jewelry theft in 2011). Instead, she opted to stay in New York, and in her place, she sent a doctor's note via her new attorney, Mark Heller. Heller produced a medical document stating that Lohan was too ill from a serious upper respiratory infection to fly to California to meet her court date on Wednesday, January 30.
On the same day she sought relief on medical grounds, she was photographed by TMZ shopping in New York City. Drat! Excuse denied. After receiving a stern warning from the court that a warrant could be issued, followed by an arrest, Lohan hopped a late flight and made her court date, just barely.
Reporters say Judge Stephanie Sautner greeted her wryly: "I'm glad to see you're feeling better."
Lohan managed to avoid jail, and another hearing was set for March 1.
Stay tuned for the next chapter. With Lindsay Lohan, there's always a next chapter more unbelievable than the one before.
