Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC), Tennessee's largest regional accounting and business consulting firm, has named John W. Bailes, CPA, as partner-in-charge of LBMC's Knoxville Accounting Services Division.

In his new role, Bailes will oversee this growing Accounting Services Division for the Knoxville office. This department is the anchor service offering for LBMCWorks, a bundled business services program for small business.
Bailes experience includes working closely with small businesses, including financial reporting, tax planning and compliance, and general consulting. He has diversified experience across industry lines including real estate, medical practices, construction, transaction planning, and individual tax services. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in business administration and a focus in accountancy.
LBMC has announced the selection of Briana Mullenax to Nashville Business Journal's 2013 class of "40 Under 40" - 40 individuals under the age of 40 who are achieving great success in their careers while giving back to their communities.
Mullenax, a CPA and senior manager for Tax Services in the Nashville office, has over nine years of public accounting experience, including providing accounting and tax services for clients in manufacturing, distribution, food service, construction, health care, nonprofit organizations, and financial institutions.
She is currently serving as the 2012/2013 president of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) Nashville Chapter. Mullenax is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
LBMC Technologies, LLC, a full-service technology firm and member of the LBMC (Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC) Family of Companies, has announced the recent addition of Mary Ann Lawson to its Brentwood (Nashville) office.
Lawson joins as a technologies administrator with a specialty in small business data and office management. Her skills also include marketing and sales, and she has a background in the health care industry. Most recently, she served as a senior accounting coordinator and corporate card administrator for Willis North America, Inc. Lawson is a graduate of Tulane University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in sociology.
The Massachusetts Society of CPAs (MSCPA) announced that its president and CEO, Theodore J. Flynn, CAE, has decided to retire at the end of 2013, ending a forty-three-year career at the helm of the state's leading professional organization for more than 11,000 CPAs and accounting professionals in Massachusetts.
A search committee comprised of board members and MSCPA leadership will conduct the process to choose Flynn's successor and will evaluate internal and external candidates for the job. The committee is expected to announce their decision this fall.
Flynn will maintain his leadership status until he retires and will assist the committee in selecting and transitioning to a new leader. In an e-mail last week to MSCPA members, he said, "This is a critical time for the accounting profession and the MSCPA, with changes to the way we do business and our ongoing focus to provide you with opportunities to learn, connect, and prosper in the profession. In the months ahead, I look forward to working with the board, MSCPA staff, and you to address the challenges we face. To each of you, I offer my heartfelt thanks for the extraordinary opportunity I've had to work with and lead you at the MSCPA. You belong to an outstanding profession and exceptional organization that, because of your commitment, will continue to protect, enhance, and promote the value of being a CPA in Massachusetts for many years to come."
Nexia International (Nexia), a top ten network of independent accounting and consulting firms, has further extended its presence in the Asia-Pacific region with the addition of two new member firms in Bangladesh and Mongolia.
Bangladeshi firm, Saha Mazumder & Co, is based in the country's capital Dhaka and has 135 staff including five partners. It provides a full range of accounting, audit, tax, and advisory services to both private and publicly listed companies across a range of sectors, including food, textiles, power and energy, insurance, and banking.
Nexia's new addition in Mongolia, Sevillia Audit LLC, has been operating in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar since 2008. Through its seven staff members, it offers accounting, audit, tax, outsourcing, and valuation services to a number of industries.
Columbia tax firm Lowrance Cooper and Company has merged into fast-growing Scott and Company LLC, one of South Carolina's fastest-growing CPA and consulting firms, and firm principal Sandy Cooper, CPA, has been named a member of Scott and Company.
The Devine Street operations of the former Lowrance Cooper firm will be consolidated immediately at Scott and Company's state-of-the-art offices at 1441 Main Street, Suite 800 in Columbia. Scott and Company also operates a second office in Greenville, South Carolina. All members of the former Lowrance Cooper firm will join Scott and Company as part of the transaction.
A native of Chapin, South Carolina, Cooper has more than twenty years of experience dealing with corporate and partnership taxation issues, with particularly deep expertise serving auto dealerships, law firms, insurance agencies, and nonprofit entities, as well as individual clients. She holds a Bachelor of Arts n Accounting from Columbia College, and previously owned her own firm before joining Lowrance Cooper and Company in 2005.
