Melancon was recognized for leading the AICPA in reinventing its culture and responding to change confronting the profession, from overseeing the institute's move to North Carolina in 2006 to communicating with AICPA members around the world on a daily basis.
Melancon and the AICPA exemplify what a modern association can and should do for its members, according to Association TRENDS Executive Editor Jill M. Cornish, IOM.
Since 1982, the accolade has been presented annually to the top association executive. Melancon is the 38th winner and will be honored during a "Salute to Association Excellence" ceremony
"I am honored to be selected by Association TRENDS newspaper as the Association Executive of the Year," said Melancon.
"In my mind this is an AICPA award, reflecting on our work as an organization which only happens because of our member volunteers, our tremendous staff and executive team, and our partnerships, including those with the state CPA societies," he said.
