The Center for Strategic Thinking is supposed to open in 2006. The only problem is Gary Boomer hasn’t found a Kansas City area location for the 3,000 – 5,000 square-foot facility where he plans to host seminars and training sessions for accounting firms across the country and around the world.
“We haven’t made a decision, but we’re probably going to do that in the next 90 days to have it ready for next year,” Boomer told the Kansas City Business Journal.
Boomer is a nationally recognized expert in technology management for the accounting industry. His Manhattan, Kansas-based Boomer Consulting, Inc. provides strategic and information technology planning, succession planning and leadership development services to accounting firms throughout the U.S. According to Accounting Today, he is among the 100 most influential people in the industry and a past chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Information Technology Executive Committee. He has served on the AICPA Academic and Career Development Executive Committee and the ACUTE Board of Directors. As the author of Successful Technology Consulting…the Boomer Advantage and the “Boomer’s Bluprint” column in Accounting Today , he is also a popular speaker at events, including the Missouri Society of CPA’s Managing an Accounting Practice Conference.
Among the events planned for the new facility are “Boomer Technology Circles.” Each Circle consists of about 20 accounting firms from multiple geographic regions that gather three times a year. Approximately 30 “Boomer Technology Circles” have been held at the Fairmont Kansas City at the Plaza hotel in each of the last five years.
“We’ve got over 120 of the leading firms in the country right now that are participating in these, and we want to grow that,” Boomer told the Kansas City Business Journal. “We do the circles in Kansas City because of the centralized location but firms are coming from all over the U.S., Canada and even the U.K.”
